The new Deputy Minister of Justice, Mrs. Velina Todorova, will be responsible for the intercountry adoptions in Bulgaria.
As a result of the elections which took place in Bulgaria in November 2011, on 12th January 2012 the new deputy ministers were officially announced as well as their spheres of responsibility. Mrs. Velina Todorova will be responsible for the sectors “Bulgarian citizenship” and “Intercountry adoptions”.
On 18th January 2012 the deputy minister initiated a joint meeting with all accredited adoption mediation agencies (AOMO).
The purpose of this meeting was to mutually acquaint the representatives of the accredited organizations with deputy minister Velina Todorova who is in charge of adoptionsand to be introduced to the policy and new manner of work of the new team of the Ministry of Justice (MoJ). Deputy minister Velina Todorova stated that her mission is to facilitate and make easier the adoption procedure and in particular the procedure for entering children in the MoJ international register – which currently is one of the slowest parts of the entire adoption process.
Mrs. Todorova suggested that monthly working meetings are organized with representatives of the accredited organizations in order to solve problems as they arise and to examine prospects for developing joint projects in the future.
